Using Technology to Beat the Competition

Posted on

Today if you are not knee deep in tech, your business is not operating at peak efficiency. Also your competition is looking at you and salivating because you are paving a way for them to either eat you up, or eat your lunch.

So you really have no choice but to engage and to go all in. Here are some of the things you can do as your business expands and the competition nips at your heels. You will need to be moving quickly and this tech will help.

Temporary Employee Apps

If you have a business where you need to hire part time workers on an intermittent basis, but when you need them, you need them fast, there is software about that can assist you. Perhaps the best in the market is Shiftpixy. It offers clients a full service app to manage bringing on employees. Here is an explanation of the benefits of using their company by its CEO.

Scott W. Absher, CEO of ShiftPixy said: “The ShiftPixy solution allows employers to avoid mandated regulatory costs and related burdens… it saves them both time and money… which is designed to give them a competitive edge. It also gives the misclassified independent contractor workers the opportunity to receive “full time” wages and healthcare coverage… to be treated as employees… because they ARE employees… they are ShiftPixy employees! The ShiftPixy Next Gen model is a “win-win” for the GIG Economy companies and workers alike. We believe the natural evolution from the classic model of GIG workers being problematically classified as independent contractors, is our best of both worlds model… They are our employees AND also remain working as if they were still independent contractors to ShiftPixy clients”.

Low Cost Cloud Storage

Only a decade ago, the race was on to purchase as much storage for you programs and vital files as possible. There were conversations about at some point needing to have hundreds of terabytes of storage space in your office to house all of the data your company needs access to on a regular basis. But a funny thing happened along the ways to buying the memory. As the cost of memory continued to erode to the point where it is less than 50th of what it was ten years ago, businesses began to emerge that would house the data for you on their servers and allow you to gain access to it anywhere and anytime you need.

Cloud storage companies allow businesses the storage space they need on demand so they never have to worry about whether they can fit another file on their hard drives. Your files are housed on their secure servers that have redundancies in different locations and the highest security available. You access your files directly from your internet connected desktop or mobile device and can also make these stored files available to anyone in your company.

The benefits of using this service are reduced storage costs, better security for your files, remote access to all of your files and an ability to expand your storage needs on the fly. For companies that have projects where remote groups work together, cloud storage is also ideal because members can collaborate on it through the cloud.

Just as remote desktop software helps employees who are geographically spread out, to get together and share their work in virtual conferences, cloud storage allows them to bring their resources together. When employees routinely save everything that they do to the cloud instead of a local drive, every piece of work that employees may create, or every file or resource that they may need, is always within reach. From Amazon Cloud to Dropbox, several cost-effective alternatives available.

What Skills are Required To Be a Great Auditor

Posted on

I spend a great deal of time speaking with college students about what careers they are looking to take on once they have finished college, and discussing the skills that are required for a variety of different job types. I am writing this piece because last week I was in Ohio, speaking to some students when someone asked me what kind of skills they would need to be an auditor of large companies. This was the first time that I’d been asked this question so I went away and did some research. I spoke to the inspirational David Giunta Newport Beach resident like myself and a man who has audited some of the world’s biggest Fortune 500 companies. I wanted to share with you what I learned, and what kind of skills you need if you want to audit.

Attention to Detail

One of the most important characteristics of anyone who is looking to move into a career as an auditor, is to have attention to detail. Essentially what you are looking for as an auditor is that a company is doing what they are supposed to regarding the law and best practices and the issues which do exist, are almost always found in the tiny details.

Patience

As an auditor you will be poring over hundreds of pages of documentation, often of the same kind, looking for any issues which may exist. This can be an incredibly mind numbing job and so in order to be good at it, and enjoy it, you must be someone who has an incredible amount of patience.

People Person

Companies hate audits and they will likely look negatively towards you as they will think that you are out to get them in some way. You and I both know that this is not the case but it won’t stop people from thinking in this way. In order to get the job done right, you will need the unequivocal support of the company that you are auditing and so it really helps to get them on side. In order to do this you’ll need to be a people person and a great communicator.

High Standards

Your job as an auditor is to find issues, problems and wrongdoing, no matter how big or small. In order to be good at this job therefore, you will need to ensure that your standards are extremely high and that you don’t accept anything other than perfection.

Follow The Rules

Audits are always laid out very strategically and there is a structure and guidelines which absolutely must be followed. With this in mind then it is vital that you are the type of person who follows the rules and completes their job to the letter of the law. There is no room for errors or shortcuts in this job and along with your high standards, you must carry out your job exactly as you have been told to.

How to Fix Your Debt Problems

Posted on

Getting into debt is extremely easy, but getting out of debt is far, far complicated. If you have found yourself facing debt problems which you are struggling to get out of then I wanted to share with you how I finally took action and managed to pay off my debts.

To give you a little background, I had been racking up debts since my late teens, it began with a credit card, then a second and when things got too much with the cards, I took out a personal loan to pay off my credit cards. My problem wasn’t so much the debts but the mismanagement of them, unpaid bills left me with high interest charges. I read a book by the great S R Buzzi and it changed the way I thought about debts entirely.

Getting Real

Ignoring debts, letters and phone calls from your creditors is only going to land you in more hot water and it is absolutely vital that you face up to the debts which you have. When you simply ignore your debts and fail to pau them, the creditors will only pursue you more, and potentially hit you with additional charges. The best way to get started in terms of getting out of your debt, is to work out how much you and who to, then start taking action.

Conversation

If you have mismanaged your debts or if your circumstances have changed leaving you unable to pay, you must speak to your creditors. In truth, it can be easy to think that speaking with this kind of stuff with creditors may be difficult but remember that they want their money back to, and that they will be inclined to make arrangements for you to help you to get your debts paid back.

Budget Wisely

There is absolutely no point in you thinking that you can pay $300 of debt repayments per month if you only earn $900 and your outgoings like rent and bills adds up to $600, this will leave you absolutely no money each month. In order to make a budget you need to be smart about what you are leaving for yourself. Nobody is saying that you shouldn’t have a life, but that you should live a frugal one and focus all of you efforts on getting your debts paid off.

Don’t Borrow

Most people are in difficulties with their debts because they borrow more money to pay off an old debt, this is a vicious cycle and one which needs to stop right now. The only option for you to take if you have not already exhausted the option, is to balance transfer any credit card debts which you may have and move them on to zero interest credit cards. With the exception of this option, you myst avoid borrowing altogether, take stock of the debt you have, and make sure that the only changes which occur are that the figure goes down.

Top email archiving suggestions for businesses

Posted on

There’s no doubt that email archiving has really come into its own over the last few years – which comes as absolutely no surprise when you cast your eye over some of the staggering email statistics that are out there (hint – millions of emails are sent every single second).

https://d2oc0ihd6a5bt.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/2276/2014/01/Email_Archive_File_Folders.jpg

However, implementing a top email archiving system is easier said than done. At first, some people might opt for the built-in features that accompany some of the mainstream email clients. Over time, needs expand though, and these clients have nowhere near the amount of possibilities that some of the specialized solutions have.

Following on from the above, we are now going to look at some of the best ways to implement a successful email archiving system for businesses. As you’ll soon see, a lot of these changes simply relate to policy changes within your company, meaning they are very easy to implement.

Fine tune your email retention policy

This is one of the very first things you should do, long before you turn to any fancy software. Despite this, it would be fair to say that the majority of companies just don’t have an email retention policy, and this is hindering their archiving attempts significantly.

So, what exactly forms part of a successful retention policy? It’s all about keeping track of your customer’s data, and also understanding exactly what type of emails your business really needs to archive. Suffice to say, if personal emails are being exchanged on the systems, there’s a very good chance that there’s no need for these to be archived and they can be removed anyway.

Keep on top of your legal requirements

In truth, this could have been bundled into the previous section. However, the importance of legal requirements means that we are going to hone in on it in more detail through here.

The laws on data are constantly changing, so much so that some companies have specialized legal teams looking to combat this. Companies are subject to enormous fines if they fall foul of these practices and naturally, if you are keeping customer emails, this is something you need to be aware of.

There’s no doubt that a proactive approach is required here, making sure that you know exactly what and when specific laws are changing. It’s not the government’s responsibility to specifically inform you about these changes – you should constantly keep an eye on the ball to ensure that you’re not archiving anything that you shouldn’t be.

This is all separate from the email use policy

Something that you should be aware of throughout this process is making sure that it remains separate from the email use policy. Just because you’re choosing not to archive certain emails, with personal emails being one example that we looked at previously, doesn’t mean to say that this should be ignored from your email use policy. In other words, this might be something that your company doesn’t permit anyway.

It means there needs to be a two-fold method of communication. One that informs employees what they can and can’t send with their emails, and the other which shows what can and can’t be archived based on the list.

Music Education and Other Ways Of Earning in Music

Posted on

If you are a musician then I am sure that you understand just how difficult it is to make money within this field. It seems that there is not much middle ground to be found in this industry and on one side you have the super stars who make albums, make millions of dollars and make their living playing to huge audiences, and on the other side you have the struggling musician, forced to take a job they hate to pay the bills.

I would always recommend that if you are a musician, that you focus hard on that and find ways in which you can earn through your skill. If you are in need of inspiration, here are just a few ways that you can earn through your music.

Teaching

Music education is something which many people are more than happy to pay for, especially when it comes to mastering a new instrument. If you are able to play an instrument or sing well, you can use these skills to help others to do the same, and make some money as you do so. Music tutors can actually make pretty good money by the hour and the only downside is that there is often alleger gaps in between classes. You can teach one to one by going to people’s house or you could even use the internet to teach people all over the world.

Busking

Believe it or not, buskers can make a good amount of money if they have a good spot, and of course, some talent. If you want to busk and you are able to find a busy spot where you can do it, you could easily make $40- $50 per day, which is more than some jobs can offer. You will need to get a permit before you are allowed to busk but once you have secured it, all you need to do is find a great place to play, be creative and watch the money come in. You won’t become rich by busking but you can definitely make some extra cash.

Tutorials

When someone wants to learn a new instrument, or how to understand music, they invariably go straight to YouTube and look for videos which can help them out, providing you with a money making opportunity. If you can upload some videos to YouTube giving tutorials on how to play music, read music or any other music related subject, you could make a good living through advertising revenue. the key to gaining popularity of your video is to spread the message all over social media so that you can begin to drum up support. Share your videos on relevant music forums and social media pages and you could see plenty of people flocking to watch your videos. Make sure that you are confident, speak slowly and ultimately that you offer something which people can learn from if you want to make money from your YouTube videos.
