On November 14th, 2006, outerboroMUSIC presented a screening and panel discussion for the film Before the Music Dies at New York University’s Cantor Film Center. Like the film itself, the event provided an opportunity for a diverse group of musicians, critics and fans to share their reflections on the place music has held in their lives, as well as their perspectives on the current state of popular music and their hopes for its future. We were honored to facilitate such a gathering of music makers and music lovers (and music lovemakers) and to have such a distinguished panel, including:
Vernon Reid – musician, Living Colour; co-founder, Black Rock Coalition
Hubert Sumlin – musician/blues legend (featured in B4MD)
Marlon Saunders – musician (Jazzhole, Bobby McFerrin)
Jen Chapin – musician, social activist (World Hunger Year)
Myoshi Marilla – co-host, The BETJ List; musician
Bob Davis – co-founder/owner, Soul Patrol
Dara Cook – journalist; writer BET, MTV
Moderator: Kevin Webb – President/CEO, Outerboro Music; musician
Also featured was an excerpt from the multi-media project “Workin’ On A Building” by musician Marlon Saunders, including the short film, “Papa’s Branch.”
